Keys for clean eating

Find out what it means and you too can follow the latest trend.

Clean eating is a new trend based on eating food that is as natural and real as possible, in order to make the most of the nutrients it offers.

Do you know what it means?

  1. No processed food. Forget about precooked food or food in a box. You cook the food so that you know what you are eating and opt for fresh and natural foodstuffs.
  2. Seasonal fruit and vegetables. Full of vitamins, fibre and complex carbohydrates.
  3. Careful with salt and sugar. Cut down on salt gradually and add aromatic herbs to heighten flavours. Cut down on sugar too and not only what you put in your coffee but also what comes in juices, shakes and shop-bought pastries.
  4. Go for You can cook pasta or rice dishes but if they are wholemeal they will provide you with more fibre which is highly beneficial. As for bread, there are hundreds of equally delicious wholemeal varieties.
  5. Have five meals a day. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon, always have fruit to increase your intake of fresh foods. If you have supper early, you can have a low-fat dairy product before you go to bed. This will help you sleep.
  6. Seek out real food. This means that you should not always choose the most perfect fruit and vegetable but rather the ugliest, which have probably been grown without pesticides and preserve all their properties. This will also help save the crops normally discarded because of their aspect.
  7. Make use of the apps that technology places at your service for your health, helping you to keep track of the calories you have consumed and need, offering you balanced menus so that you don’t have to worry about what you are going to eat today or planning your weekly shop so that you optimise resources.
  8. Make a habit of reading food labels and don’t just make do with the “diet” or “light” label. Find out what kind of fat they contain, their sugar content as well fibre, and compare calories.
  9. Look out for “organic” products to ensure that have been grown or bred in an eco-friendly manner as this means you will be avoiding pesticides.
And, as usual, try to eat a bit of everything, drink lots of fluids and do exercise.
