Light, healthy meals to cope better with the heat

Don’t skip dinner when it’s hot. Learn to deal with it.

Dinner should always be a lighter meal than lunch. You should have finished digesting it by the time you go to bed and will be able to sleep undisturbed. Skipping dinner will make you thirstier during the night, your sleep will be more restless and you will get up feeling drained and eat more calories at breakfast.

Here are some ideas for light, healthy, fresh dinners for beating the heat.

What do you fancy?

  1. Turkey breast with Basmati rice. Yoghurt and strawberries.

Turkey is very low in fat and rice is rich in complex carbohydrates. Strawberries add a touch of freshness, with vitamin C and water.

  1. Vichyssoise soup. Grilled sole with peas. Plain yoghurt.

The soup is fresh, diuretic and rich in vitamin B6. Sole contains valuable proteins and is easy to digest. Peas are good for the circulation and they contain magnesium, calcium and vitamin C.

  1. Gazpacho andaluz. Cheese omelette. A slice of melon.

This will quench your thirst and help you to survive a hot night. It contains beta-carotene, high biological value protein and vitamin C.

  1. Green salad. Hake en papillote with carrots. Curd.

Group B vitamins, healthy fats and calcium. A very nourishing dinner.

  1. Tomato and mozzarella salad. Chicken burger. Two apricots.

This salad provides the body with a lot of water, vitamin A, calcium, proteins and tryptophan to help you to sleep. Light and well balanced.

  1. Melon soup. Scrambled eggs with asparagus and garlic shoots. Fresh cheese and walnuts.

Another option to combat insomnia. Vitamins, water, complete proteins and Omega 6.

  1. Salad with lamb’s lettuce, watercress and goat’s cheese. Tuna pasties. A kiwi.

A diuretic dinner that will help you to control your blood sugar levels.

Remember: for your dinner to be balanced and nourishing it must contain vegetables, a lean protein such as poultry, egg or fish, very little fats, some cereals and a dairy product or piece of fruit for dessert.

Ring the changes and don't always have the same thing for dinner. Prepare your meals with simple methods (grilled, baked, steamed...). You will sleep easy and find it easier to cope with the heat.
