Palaeo training, work out like a caveman
This method, which uses Palaeolithic movements, improves general health
As the name suggests, Palaeo workouts emulates the basic movements of human beings who lived 10,000 years ago, during the Palaeolithic era. Crawling on the ground, climbing trees, jumping off rocks and running barefoot on the ground are some of the activities in this method, which revolutionising the fitness world and has great health benefits.
This method was created in 2007, through an exercise regime for patients with lower back, back and cervical problems. It was championed by a group of doctors and physiotherapists who believed that this exercise regime would improve everyone’s general health.
Palaeo workouts are science-based training sessions that emulate the ways that our ancestors moved about during 95% of evolution. They restore physical fitness, stimulate the genes and improve general health, posture, body shape and physical and sports performance.
Ancient training principals
Functionality: palaeo movements are based on patterns of movements that the body can recognise, such as jumping, pushing, climbing and lifting. It works on the body’s 15 basic physical capacity and uses the body itself and its surroundings as resistance.
Intensity: different exercises, some with weights, others with strength and some cardiovascular, stimulate the body in ways that improve endurance. The goal is to achieve the highest performance in the shortest possible time.
Variety: this kind of training consists of 150 exercises and 20 types of sessions. They are combined in many ways to simulate the physical abilities of our ancestors, aerobic capacity, agility, maximum strength and balance.
Strategic fasting: these exercises are usually done on an empty stomach, just like Homo sapiens did when they went out in search of food, which regulates the energy system. Palaeotraining is accompanied by the Palaeo diet, a fruit, vegetables, meat and fish based diet.
Benefits of palaeo training
- Physical balance: stimulates the development of a body with a higher percentage of lean mass and less surface fat.
- Better posture: It gives muscles an integral workout, encouraging recovery of correct posture and preventing common problems in the lower back and cervical spine.
- Good physical condition: Constantly changing activities and short rest periods get the body in shape and prevent the muscles from becoming atrophied.
- Self esteem: High intensity sport releases more endorphins (feel-good hormones) than gentler types of exercise, and boost motivation.
As you see, this is an all-round, intensive and dynamic training method, with numerous benefits for the body.
Palaeotraining does not pit people against each other, but aims to achieve success as a group, like a tribe from prehistoric times.
