How sanitiser gels work

Antibacterial gels are one of the best ways to keep your hands clean and disinfected; but do you know how they work on your skin?

Frequent hand washing with soap and water is one of the best hygiene and germ prevention measures. However, in the face of extraordinary situations such as COVID-19, sanitiser gels have become one of our best weapons.

Sanitiser gels help keep our hands cleanand protected against viruses and bacteria.

How does it work?

When coming into contact with our skin, sanitiser gels remove any substances that may be on it. In addition, thanks to their high alcohol content, they prevent our hands from becoming transmitters of viruses or bacteria when touching our nose, eyes and/or mouth. What characteristics should the gel have?

However, for sanitiser gels to work effectively, the most important thing is that their alcohol content be greater than 60%.

How should I apply it and how frequently?

To use properly, put a drop of gel in the palm of your hands and rub well until the gel dries. Try to spread the sanitiser gel over all areas of skin.

It is important to apply sanitiser gel to your hands every time you touch or handle something. As long as you use a moderate amount of gel (spreading one drop is sufficient), it should be enough.

In the current situation, we recommend carrying a small bottle of sanitiser gel so you can apply it anywhere, at any time. If this is impossible, try to touch as little as possible and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water as soon as you get home, or as soon as you can.
